Treatment Planning
Following your initial consultation, Dr. Al-Misky will determine approximately how many treatment sessions will be needed to achieve desired results and then can schedule the necessary appointments. Most appointments take about 45 to 60 minutes and involve several dozen injections. Most patients are able to return to their regular activities without any downtime and can resume strenuous exercise the following day.
If a patient requires a more advanced and invasive treatment such as EVLT or a mini-phlebectomy, we will provide more information and schedule at a later date.
Since most patients need more than one treatment session to clear up all of their spider and varicose veins, visits can be scheduled weekly, monthly, or in multiple visits in a week or even a single day. For out of town patients, and those with very busy schedules, we offer an “intensive program.”
Treatment Planning
During your initial consultation, Dr. Al-Misky will determine approximately how many treatments you will need. You may begin your sclerotherapy treatment immediately following the consultation if you let Dr. Al-Misky’s staff know that you plan to get treatment on the same day as your consultation. (If you require a more advanced and invasive treatment such as EVLT or a mini-phlebectomy, Dr. Al-Misky can provide more information and schedule the procedure for a later date). Please advise our staff if you are taking hormones, blood thinners, antibiotics, or have a clotting abnormality to ensure the best results.
For out-of-town patients, Dr. Al-Misky can discuss with them the treatment plan via FaceTime or Skype.
Many patients require multiple treatments depending on amount of veins that need treatment, how easily the patients’ veins heal, and the level of cosmetic perfection desired.
If a patient has a big event (graduation, wedding, etc) or a vacation that they are hoping to look their best at, we recommend beginning treatment 2-3 months prior to the date to have enough time to receive all of the treatment they need and to allow time for their body to heal.
Once all of a patient’s veins have been treated with sclerotherapy, Dr. Al-Misky will request a follow-up appointment to see if there is any blood trapped in the treated veins. She can treat the trapped blood and ensure that the patient’s veins are looking as good as possible.
Intensive Program
For patients requiring multiple treatments, some prefer to space out the treatments by returning to the VTC office for weekly or biweekly appointments. Other patients prefer to do an intensive program of treatments, getting over the treatments and the bruise healing quicker. In an intensive program, a patient can get 2 or 3 sessions on the same day and can do multiple sessions in a week. The cosmetic effects are the same whether treatments are spaced out or clustered into an intensive program.
During this intensive program period, Dr. Al-Misky may recommend wearing compression stockings for a few days and to use a special cream to accelerate the healing.
